Christmas

I have been frustrated lately by pop culture's take on Christmas. The various interpretations of what is a proper noun seems astounding. Perhaps they should have listened to Linus.

For a beautifully written explanation of why A Charlie Brown Christmas works so well, visit Sean Gaffney's Blog: http://gaffneyjournal.blogspot.com/2007/12/linus-and-lucy-cb-part-six.html

Faith

Steven Colbert shares more than his humor with the women on the View.

It's a strangely rambling interview until Barbara Walters takes control and asks Steven about his late father and how his mother managed raising all those kids.

His answer is illuminating.

Blast Off!

Historic days don't come around very often. So it's nice we have video to capture it.

Today marked the first time a private company completed a full rocket launch and re-entry.

Watching the video and seeing the stills of the elegant three chute splashdown recalled former NASA glory days.

Way to go Space X!

World Cup Quidditch

In honor of the World Cup match that was just played in NYC (Go Midd!) and the movie The Deathly Hallows, here's a look back at muggle quidditch.

Lemonade

I really enjoy the show Community. Why? Because they are all about making lemonade.

Up! Lifting!

So it's been awhile since I've had access to my computer.

Long story.

But this one is short and sweet.

Narnia

In the book Prince Caspian Reepicheep is a very brave, albeit proud mouse who loses his tail in battle. He is horrified and begs Aslan, the Great Lion, to give him his tail back. Aslan is not so sure, it seems that Reepicheep is a bit too fond of his tail for Aslan's liking. However, when the rest of Reepicheep's troop declare that if their leader cannot have a tail, they will forsake theirs as well, Aslan grants Reepicheep's wish saying:

"Ah, you have conqured me. You have great hearts. Not for the sake of your dignity, Reepicheep, but for the love that is between you and your people..."

I am thinking that perhaps the Great Lion sometimes disguises himself as a Japanese Elementary School Teacher.

No Mirrors

I have noticed a disturbing trend in advertising. It is apparently not enough to make girls and young women feel inadequate in physical appearance; 5th Ave. has now zeroed in on the boys and young men, figuring they have disposable cash and equally vulnerable souls. They had better buy AXE body spray and make sure they shave their chest with Nivea.
When I am worried about where these roads will lead, I listen to the beautiful sounds of Sweet Honey in the Rock and remember how we should be talking to these young souls...

Testing, testing, 1, 2, 3...

Hollywood prides itself on being liberal.

But by testing Hollywood movies by this insanely low bar for sexism, the results prove otherwise.

Bechdel Test Movie List

2. Who talk to each other
3. About something besides a man

Back of the Bus

The new Geek Squad ad shows a mother and her teenage son shopping for computers. When informed of getting a "Geek Squad" employee to help them with their purchase; the mother picks out one person, the teenage boy picks out a different Geek Squad member - a cute girl. When his mother casually mentions that her Geek Squad pick has certain important features, the boy orders his mother to "... go get the car."

Really?

Really.

Her son, who, it is assumed from the relationship in the ad is "getting" this computer from his mother instead of buying it himself, orders his mother into, what I assume is, HER CAR.

Really.

Best Buy - you might want to check out a little show called Mad Men. It's a show set in the 1960's about the left over attitudes from the 1950's.

Haunted...

Last Life in the Universe is one of my favorite films. It haunted me for weeks after I had seen it.
It was funny, tragic, childish, spontaneous, strange.

And the music made me want to sit in silence for days...

My LOST Predictions - yes, Spoiler Alert

This is the end, my beautiful friend...

But it only ends once, so I wanted to throw my two cents into the fountain - or down the well, if you prefer.

****IF YOU DON'T WANT ANYTHING SPOILED DO NOT READ *****

(# = a theory that isn't really mine)

WHAT I THINK WILL HAPPEN DURING THE LOST FINALE:

Vincent will be revealed as Jacob (or an "agent" thereof)

Smokey will be revealed to have been in Locke to some extent since Season 1.
(Why else is he glaring at Vincent as a growl noise comes up at the end of "Wash Away"?)

# - Smokey was Kate's (black) horse

# - toss up as to who was Sayid's cat and who was Sawyer's Boar

(note to self - when washed up on a strange, magical island, refrain from killing the wildlife - this means you Saywer! "Tree Frog" murderer!)

Drive Shaft will sing "You All Everybody" at the concert and it will make sense in that they are all Family now, they truly ARE everybody - even when wearing their stupid clothes

#Possibility that Jack will disappear from the Sideways world - his sacrifice for reuniting all of his friends (the Family) in the other world

Possibility that Hurley will have to take over for Jack as the new, new Jacob and like the food feast, he will spread the light to everyone before the Island sinks- the Finale takes place on Pentecost people, this is a real possibility.

On the Island, Ben is doing the long con with fits of old Ben showing up - but in the end he will "see" Jacob, be forgiven, and have a happy ending in the "other" world.

In the other world, the links to each other will be very strong and obvious - they will be a Family - much like Boone told Locke in Locke's dream.

Yes, yes, Juliet is Jack's ex-wife. Yes, she will meet Sawyer, yes, they will talk about going out for coffee - dutch. Hee!

Miles' date for the concert? Well, if not Sawyer...me. Well, okay, if not me, then it will be...Naomi. (Or Ana Lucia - but he had more scenes with Naomi.)

The last shot will be of the DVD set slated to come out in December, right before Christmas...

It's YOUR TURN now! Please leave your predictions in the comment section.

Hee! What a great ride it's been!

Mad Quips

Darlton, the combo that helmed Lost, have said that the ending of the show will be "Lostian".

During a Time interview Darlton gave this definition of "Lostian".

DL: “Lostian” is intriguing, more than confusing, intensely emotional, risky, slightly terrifying, and communal.
CC: I would say, intense and provocative.
DL: Use that in your Mad Libs. “Lostian.”

THE END is Near...

These were made for the Lost Season 6 Promo contest.

Enjoy, while we send off one of the greatest shows in history!

Thanks, Darlton et al!

I have been disheartened by what our culture deems acceptable for children.
